The Walker County Sheriff’s Office is proud to introduce its newest member, Deputy Yoda, a four-legged two-year-old Belgian Malinois hailing form the Netherlands. Deputy Yoda joins the force as a multipurpose patrol dog, trained to assist in various law enforcement capacities.
Deputy Yoda and his handler Deputy Whitworth underwent an intensive seven-week training and certification program to ensure they are fully prepared to serve the community effectively as a cohesive k-9 team. Training includes obedience training, scent detections, agility exercises and scenario-based simulations.
Multipurpose patrol dogs are valuable assets to law enforcement agencies due to their unique abilities and contributions to public safety efforts with narcotics detection and patrol work ability serving alongside law enforcement officers to enhance police operations.
Sheriff McRae said, “We are thrilled to welcome Deputy Yoda to our team.” He said, “He brings a set of skills and abilities that will significantly enhance our capabilities and play a crucial role in assisting our deputies in law enforcement operations.”
