Memorial Day is a nationally recognized day in which Americans dedicate remembrance of those who died in the military service of their country.
In Conroe, the annual Memorial Day remembrance, hosted by the Montgomery County Veteran’s Memorial Commission, gets underway at 9 Monday morning at the Montgomery County Veteran’s Memorial Park. The commission operates the park. The memorial event will conclude at 10:30 AM.
The park is located at the southeast corner of I-45 and Texas 105 in Conroe. Dedicated in May of 2021, visitors will find that the park has a number of memorializing features. There are, of course, memorials to fallen soldiers from Montgomery County. The park also features a row of flags for different military branches and local agencies, a September 11th, 2001 memorial area, a tribute to female pilots of World War II, a monument dedicated to the contributions of the World War II’s B-17 bombers and to those whose lives were lost in a crash at the Dallas air show of November 12, 2022.
“The Line,” an ever-changing monument displays the names of those who served from around the U-S. During Monday’s ceremony, the most recent panels of “The Line” will feature 200 more veterans names to be dedicated. Also, the names of more than 170 fallen soldiers from Montgomery County will be read by local dignitaries and officials.
