On our “Around Town” program over the weekend, Interim Willis ISD Superintendent Tom Crowe filled us in on the district’s bond proposal.
The early voting on the community committee’s bond proposal will start on April 22nd, and the election day is Saturday, May 4th.
Growth issues for Willis and the district need a solution.
It’s a total bond package of $218,100,000. There are four propositions:
–Proposition A amounts to $102,700,000 which is for a 9th grade center, transportation center, general infrastructure and Willis High School parking lot upgrades–all due to growth.
–Proposition B amounts to $68,800,000 for an athletic complex with a 400-seat community room. Crowe said the current stadium is fifty years old, and more spectator seats are needed.
–Proposition C amounts to $19,600,000 for an aquatic center. Crowe said, at present, they are sending kids down to Conroe at 5 AM for swimming practice. Uses also include meets and swimming lessons.
–Proposition D amounts to $27,000,000 for a student activity center. Crowe said it’s a 100-yard-long covered training facility for sports, the band and ROTC. It meets new environmental temperature requirements.
About the tax rate, Crowe said:
