At this week’s Huntsville City Council session, councilmembers looked into entering into a 40-year, Fixed Based Operation lease agreement with Huntsville Aviation to provide aeronautical services at our regional airport
The lease agreement, which can be found in the City Council “Agenda Packet,” is a lengthy, extensively detailed document. Some of the construction planned at the expense of the operator includes “terminal building improvements at an estimated value of $80,000; an eight T-Hangar Building at an estimated value of $565,000; a Corporate/Aviation Service Business Hangar at an estimated value of $420,000; Multiple Unit Box Hangars at an estimated value of $750,000, Additional Corporate/Aviation Service Business Hangars at an estimated value of $1,260,000 [and a] Self Service Aviation Fueling Facility at an estimated value of $350,000.”
The document also says, among other stipulations, that the “City will be responsible for the repair, maintenance and construction of all runways, taxiways and ramp parking areas.”
So, it’s obvious this will be a major endeavor.
Councilmembers voted to enter into Executive Session for discussion on it.
Reconvening, the mayor asked to hear a motion on the executive session.
Councilmember Tore Fossum said he moved to table it.
That was seconded. In the discussion phase, Councilmember Jon Strong said he was in favor of tabling it.
Councilmembers voted to postpone it.
