Community Impact reports that on February 14th the Willis ISD Board of Trustees approved a few items during their meeting. The agenda included consideration of volunteer chaplains, teacher incentive payments and pre-bond services.
Regarding okaying a one-time retention incentive check for district personnel. It includes:
–A one-time payment of $2,500 for professional employees, teachers and school resource officers.
–A one-time payment of $1,500 for nonexempt and hourly employees.
–A one-time payment of $500 to employees hired after May 1st but before July 1st.
The district personnel should get their checks in August.
Regarding the providing of pre-bond services for the May 2024 bond referendum, the board picked the architecture firm Huckabee and Associates.
The bond for 2024 will do the following if passed–
–Expand the ninth-grade campus of the high school.
–Add a new center for transportation.
–Construct a new stadium and athletic complex.
–Build an aquatic center which includes a competition swimming pool.
–Create a possible 120,000-square-foot indoor student activity center.
And, the Texas Legislature recently voted on a bill that mandates all districts vote by March 1st on whether they should adopt an authorization to employ or allow volunteer services of chaplains.
The board voted unanimously against it.
