The Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting was conducted by Emergency Management Coordinator Butch Davis at the Storm Shelter last Thursday.
Among important things on their agenda was a presentation by Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Huntsville, Adam Willingham, about an AreaRae Honeywell air monitor.
There are six of these units ready to be used in Walker County. Six fire stations have them. The unit senses oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, gamma radiation, has photoionization detection for volatile organic compounds, detects lower explosive limits and has a built-in weather station. The cost for each unit is around $15,000.
