The Courier of Montgomery County reports that the Conroe City Council has agreed to make available to those interested a piece of land off Crooke Street for $200,000. Conroe is moving forward in getting its excess land off the books.
Endeavor Group LLC made the largest offer, according to information from the city. The land itself is just above an acre in size. The company’s intentions for the property were not available.
The city has sold off seven of the 16 parcels of their land since August of 2022. As a result, there was a $1 million rise in the city’s bottom line.
All the pieces of land were small, according to Assistant City Administrator and Director of Community Development, Nancy Mikeska. There were no plans to develop them.
The move to sell was followed by the city councilmembers dropping the purchase of downtown’s Dabney Simpson building for $850,000. The deal for the property at Metcalf and Frazier Streets was set to finalize back in October of 2022.
In August of 2022, Mayor Jody Czajkoski said the city should not buy the building and consider selling off the parcels of land they own.
Back in 2023 the city had to cut spending in the budget, when they became aware the property tax revenues would be $2.6 million less than their projection. Also in 2023, the city lowered its tax rate.
