If you want to explore your family’s history, the Courier of Montgomery County passes along that at the central branch in Conroe the Genealogy and Local History Library has slated a Lineage Society Fair on January 25th. It gets underway on the first floor of the library from noon to 3 PM in the large meeting room.
Major Texas and American historical events researched in a family’s lineage are the basic focus of what heritage and lineage societies are all about. Genealogical documentation traced back to a major historical event, in which an ancestor played a part, is the basic membership requirement of those who want to join a lineage society.
There are several lineage organizations that are active in Montgomery County.
Locally, members of the Sons of the American Revolution Freedom Chapter help out in parades and at veterans events. Their colonial dress for these events are known to display a patriotic red, white and blue.
The Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution, back in 2023, got together with the Texas A&M Forest Service put together a 100-acre conservation district. The purpose of the district in the W.G. Jones State Forest is to protect the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker.
Lineage organizations have been known to offer scholarships for area students and help out in purchasing Genealogy Room materials.
The last lineage fair, according to the Director of the Genealogy and Local History Library in Conroe, said the last time a lineage fair was held was back in 2019. And, she said department visitors said they wanted to have another event again.
