The Courier of Montgomery reports that in order to allow improved access to Montgomery County department offices and the sheriff’s office in Conroe from Loop 336, construction has started to extend FM 1484 to Hilbig Road.
The project will make it possible, by way of an 850-foot road, for first responders and the public to have a way to visit county buildings without crossing the railroad tracks by First Street and Hilbig Road.
Precinct #1 Commissioner Robert Walker said it will “make a huge difference” for the sheriff’s office to enter and exit the area. The road will help in lessening traffic jams on the two-laned Hilbig Road. Regarding the project, Walker said his office is in partnership with the City of Conroe on the effort.
$1 million was funded by the city to pay for the rights-of-way for the road. Montgomery County is responsible for taking care of the project design.
Construction of the road will be done by Precinct #1 crews. Walker said the costs for his office are “minimal.”
Walker said that much of the materials for the subgrade are stored away. They will utilize a lot of it, along with his top-of-the line crew. Hence, fuel and labor are already seen to.
Maintenance will be taken care of by the county. The project completion date is the end of February.
