The Courier of Montgomery County reports that in order to improve security at all 76 Conroe ISD campuses, the district is designating the use of $35 million in bond funds and a grant funding of $10 million.
At the December 12th CISD Board meeting, Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Chris McCord, explained the grant funds will aid them in addressing an August deadline to adhere to safety requirements from the state.
McCord passed along schools need to have anti-scaling fences to make certain areas secure. Doors with glass on the exterior of facilities, and windows next to them, are required to have impact-resistant film. In order to put in secure fencing at 27 elementary schools, he said in February CISD got a $2.8 million school safety and standards grant.
In order to improve school security in Texas, the state has designated around $1 billion.
Director of Planning and Security for CISD, Easy Foster, said that bond funds, $35 million, will be put to use for several things like more security cameras, the phasing out of keys to use cards to gain access and communication equipment upgrades.
Foster said the district is also focusing on a new elementary model so that “each grade level corridor can be secured.”
