The Courier of Montgomery County reports that on Saturday, National Wreaths Across America Day, the nationwide patriotic endeavor honoring veterans will include five cemeteries in Montgomery County.
Initiated in 1992, the nonprofit organization’s purpose is to spread the annual ceremony of wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery.
In December, a coordinated effort of the wreath laying at Arlington is expanded to over 3,700 veterans cemeteries as well as other places in every state, even overseas.
Those interested can check out an interactive map of ceremony locations throughout the USA and Montgomery County on the Wreaths Across America website.
Volunteers will put the wreaths on the graves of veterans and have remembrance services in Montgomery County at 11 AM Saturday.
County cemeteries participating in the services include:
–Oakwood Cemetery at Tenth Street and Texas 105 in Conroe. Over 500 volunteer-sponsored wreaths will be put on graves at Oakwood. A strong storm intervention would cause it to be rescheduled for Sunday at 1:30 PM.
–At 14711 FM 1488 in Magnolia, Klein Funeral Home & Memorial Parks will put out 179 wreaths.
–At 408 Old Plantersville Road in Montgomery at the Montgomery New Cemetery, 219 wreaths will be placed, as well as 81 wreaths scheduled to be put on graves at the Montgomery Memorial Cemetery at 22985 FM 1097 in Montgomery.
–And for the first time this year, Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home and Cemetery is joining the wreath laying effort with 418 wreaths at 18000 I-45.
