On Monday, Walker County Tax Asssessor-Collector Diana McRae addressed County Commissioners regarding establishing the Annex as a poll place to comply with Senate Bill 924.
She explained that, “In 2021, Walker County had to create a new election precinct, which is Precinct 405. When the statewide redistricting split our county into two congressional districts, that congressional district split caused the territory we now call Precinct 405 to separate from Precinct 403.”
She passed along the reasons for choosing the Annex:
She added that “All commissioners right now have two poll places within their precinct. We have 8 poll places. This, of course, will be number #9, but it’s fitting that it would be in Precinct 1 when it would definitely help Precinct 1 voters, as well as all county-wide, because it’s where it’s located.”
Commissioners approved the agenda item.
