On November 16, a grand opening was held for the Chennault Airfield which is a new flight school and airport for Conroe. Airport official said the new facility is seen as the “hub” for training aviators in Houston’s north metro area.
The property, which had been abandoned for several years, had been used as an airstrip for crop dusters in the 1970’s.
Known for his prowess in aerial military combat during the second world war, Lt. General Claire Lee Chennault is the new airport’s namesake.
Located at 15900 Schank Road in Conroe, it’s first development was a 3,100 foot runway and a hangar which is home of the Channault Aviation Academy. Flight operations and classes got underway on November 15th.
