The Courier of Montgomery County reports that as a component of Conroe’s Community Development Block Grant program funded by the federal government, the city council has chosen a company to construct four homes for some local residents.
Assistant City Administrator and Director of Community Development, Nancy Mikeska, passed along that the low bidder for the project, at $807,000, was Quality Works Construction out of Navasota. She said the city is just the “facilitator.” The contractual agreement is between the homeowner and the contractor.
Last month, some members of the council took a tour of the homes chosen for the program.
The funds are required to be used for tearing down and then constructing a new residence. The result must be a sufficient place to live for those in need.
A seven-member Community Block Grant Board selects the residents. Those considered, are required to be living in the Madeley and Dugan areas of Conroe. Ms. Mikesa said they are the most historic and oldest parts of the area.
