Community Impact reports that at a September 26 meeting, TxDOT presented a possible new configuration for I-45. From Grand Parkway to Loop 336 in Conroe, a new layout would offer HOV lanes and more intersection options.
Back in 2017, TxDOT began a Planning and Environmental Linkages study to come up with solutions for the future of flow and congestion on I-45. Following many public meetings and studies, short-term and long-term solutions were suggested.
As a result of the public comment and studies, the most preferred workable solution to congestion on I-45 was to build elevated managed lanes that access important frontage roads. The strategy would make intersections that have access to I-45 into diverging diamond interchanges by means of elevating the traffic on frontage roads over busy intersections.
TxDOT, in the short term, is considering pathways for shared use along frontage roads. They have development of lane elevations on the 20-year plan.
