The Courier of Montgomery County reports that in conjunction with the City of Conroe’s contract with Waste Management, Conroe citizens will be getting a recycling and garbage charge increase starting the first of next month.
Conroe’s contract with Waste Management goes back to October of 2017, according to Assistant City Manager and Director of Finance Collin Boothe. There’s an automatic rate increase of 1.9 percent each year in the agreement which is for residential and small commercial service.
According to Boothe, currently the rate for one recycling cart and one trash cart is $17.14 monthly. Next month that will go up to $17.47 monthly.
The new rate is for expenses to Conroe’s billing department operations and keeping the roadways in shape because of the collection trucks’ effect on streets.
A sewer and water rate increase in 2024 for residential and commercial customers preceded the rate increase for garbage collection. Residential customers will see their bill go up by 3.25 percent, while commercial customers will get a 6.75 percent increase.
The proposed rate, according to Boothe, will raise the bill for residential users who use 15,000 gallons from $206 monthly to $209 monthly. In the case of commercial users, their payment for 100,000 gallons of water use will go from $1,540 to $1,673 monthly.
