The Courier of Montgomery County reports that as a component of new safety measures, Conroe ISD high school and junior high school students are now required to wear student I-D badges.
It’s been required for CISD staff to wear I-D badges for several years. This summer, trustees at Conroe ISD passed the badge requirements for students.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Operations and member of CISD’s security committee, Chris McCord, quickly identifying students and substitute teachers are a couple of the benefits of the badges. Time in the line-up for lunches is also predicted to be reduced.
McCord also passed along that, in the past, I-D badges were given to students, but there was no mandatory requirement.
The I-D badge system, follows the start of CISD putting into effect the SMART tag system last year, which required students who rode the bus to scan a card on boarding and exiting their bus. With signup, the system notified parents of bus pickup and afternoon arrival times. There is also a record made where and when the student boards and leaves a bus.
