Community Impact reports that a new rescue boat for Lake Conroe has been purchased by the Montgomery County Emergency Service District No. 2 and the Montgomery Fire Department.
Designed to maneuver in rough water, a July 17th news release says Rescue Boat 54 is a Zodiac that’s 31 feet long. According to Chief Brian Edwards, most of the boat owners that have issues experience problems when the lake becomes rough in a short amount of time. The condition will often take boaters by surprise.
Chief Edwards said it’s getting busier with more calls nowadays. Previously he said, “If Montgomery County ESD No. 1 is out on a call, there isn’t another one available.”
MCESD No. 1 Battalion Chief Lonnie Mapston said their boat is utilized more frequently for rescue in flooding situations in comparison to responding to emergencies on the lake. He said ESD No. 54’s Zodiac is more adequately rigged for “surface water rescue.”
Stationed at the Walden Marina, the new Zodiac was put into service on July 2nd.
