The Courier of Montgomery County reports that the next move in a $120 million project to extend Old Conroe Road from FM 1488 to Loop 336 was taken by the Conroe City Council on Thursday in awarding the design contract.
The city has a $6 million dollar contract with LJA Engineering out of Houston, of which $328,800 has been earmarked for the design contract.
Also on Thursday, the council approved a $200,000 contract with the Goodman Corporation to be the grant administrator for the road project.
The Houston Galveston Area Council, back in 2015, authorized funding 80 percent of the $120 million project. The city provided a 20 percent match, as well as $25 million for more costs in regard to the project which included contingency funds.
The Conroe City Council, back in November, gave the okay to up to $20 million in bonds for the north end of the project.
The city has conferred with Precinct #2 Commissioner Charlie Riley for help in funding. He said he would only aid with funds for the project if, in the future, the county passed a road bond referendum.
