Community Impact reports that according to the FAA, the Montgomery County Commissioners’ Court must figure out a way to come up with $1.35 million for the land where their newly constructed forensic center was built following the property being mistakenly identified as County property. It is in reality, the property of the Conroe-North Houston Airport.
Precinct #3 Commissioner James Noack pulled the “Consent Agenda” item for discussion into the regular open meeting during their April 11th session. He told commissioners, “We have to buy the land at fair market.”
Director of the Conroe-North Houston Airport, James Brown, said after the forensic center at 9900 Carl Pickering Drive was built, it was later found to be airport property by the FAA and TxDOT.
Payment does not have to be made right away, according to Brown. He said the agenda item was not for funding. He said, “It is to sign the letter authorizing the county judge to sign the letter so that we could submit it to the FAA to begin the land release process.”
The item was tabled by the court to let the Montgomery County attorney’s assess possible issues with land ownership and initiate discussions with the FAA about different release agreements on the land.
