During an April 12th Conroe City Council meeting the Historic Downtown Conroe Main Street Advisory Board passed along their recommendations for Conroe’s 2023-25 Strategic Plan in the categories of organization, economic vitality, design in downtown and promotion.
Detailed reports were presented from each category from board members. The recommendations were extensive, but we can only cover a few.
Chair of the Organization Committee Carla Alsandor said the committee was in favor of re-establishing “Conroe Live.” “Conroe Live” would exist as a nonprofit that works to get grants and would be involved for fundraising for Main Street. They would have “Conroe Live” contract with a fundraising consultant. They would contract with an event manager to create and manage an annual outdoor 3-D Chalk Art Festival. Her committee also suggested to contract with an events manager to manage a monthly “First Friday” in Conroe.
Among the suggestions from Chairman of the Economic Vitality Committee Scott Harper:
Chairman of the Design Committee Larry Foerster talked about wayfinding signs for pedestrians. historical markers and restrooms.
Regarding promotion, Carla Alsandor talked about purchasing and installing an electronic sign to be installed at Founders Park and to arrange speaking engagements at local organizations to promote Historic Downtown Conroe.
