Community Impact reports that there will be a tuition increase beginning in the Fall of 2023 at Lone Star College because of a unanimous vote taken on March 2 by their Board of Trustees. It was on their “Consent Discussion” with no discussion.
An increase in tuition will occur for dual-credit tuition, out-of-state tuition and in-and-out of district tuition costs.
The upcoming fall increase is part of an equalization plan. In 2016, LSCS Chancellor Stephen Head passed along that the board approved equalizing the percentage of the budget that taxpayers and students pay during a fiscal year.
He said that right now taxpayers pay 60% of costs, while students pay 32%. He said a tuition increase for students was paused in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic.
Information reported puts in-district tuition increasing from $96 to $103 dollars per credit hour. Out-of-District is $231 and out-of-state is $290 per credit hour.
