04/22/21 Thursday – Kats get automatic berth to NCAA regionals

Bearkat softball lost on Wednesday to Baylor. According to a story appearing online at gobearkats.com, Baylor scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back to hand Sam Houston an 8-0 loss in five innings at Getterman Stadium Wednesday. It was the second and final meeting between the Bearkats (13-24) and Bears (22-12) this season. Baylor topped Sam Houston 7-3 in Huntsville on March 23. The Bearkats will head to Natchitoches, La., to face Northwestern State in a three-game Southland Conference series this weekend. Due to inclement weather expected Friday, there will now be a doubleheader on Saturday at 5pm and a single game will be played Sunday at 1pm.

The Sam Houston women’s golf team wrapped up a dominant week on the course with their second consecutive Southland Conference Championship. According to a story appearing online at gobearkats.com, Sam Houston once again fired the low team round of the day with a 316 to win the event by 19 strokes over Central Arkansas. The tournament victory earns the Bearkats an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. The Kats will compete at one of four regional sites, which will be announced on the NCAA Women’s Golf selection show, which will be televised Wednesday, April 28, on the GOLF Channel at a time that is to be determined.
