COUNCILMEMBERS DISCUSS GOLF CART REGULATIONS AT TUESDAY’S COUNCIL SESSION

At last night’s regular session of the Huntsville City Council, councilmembers discussed an ordinance that would regulate the use of golf carts on City Streets. Councilmember Rodriguez had received a number of calls from residents in the Elkins Lake area regarding the safety of children driving golf carts on city streets.

Input on the subject was heard from several councilmembers, as well as retired DPS Trooper Ron Wood, who lives in Elkins Lake.

City Attorney Leonard Schneider informed councilmembers of the legal status of the golf cart issue according to present state law . . . .

Councilmember Bert Lyle felt it was an issue of parents or grandparents overseeing the behavior of children when it came to driving golf carts on City streets.

Councilmembers voted against the ordinance of regulations on golf carts on the streets of Huntsville by 7 to 2. Mayor Brauninger and Councilmember Rodriguez voted in favor.
