Sweeping Whitehouse in three matches Tuesday night, the Huntsville Lady Hornets have gotten their first district title in volleyball since 2014. The Lady Hornets and The Lady Wildcats started the night being tied in first place, but Huntsville ended the night with a 25-14, 25-19 and 25-17 sweep.
The Sam Houston State men’s basketball team will host Rice and play road games against three preseason top 25 teams during the nonconference portion of the 2020-21 season; this is according to a story appearing on gobearkats.com.
The Bearkats open with a game at SMU on Nov. 25 then head to Lubbock to battle No. 14 Texas Tech in a 1 p.m. contest which will be televised on ESPNU on Nov. 27. Sam Houston State will face Boise State on Nov. 29 at Dickie’s Arena in Fort Worth to cap a three-game road swing.
The first home game is against Arlington Baptist at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 1, then SHSU will play host to Dallas Christian on Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m. The Kats will face No. 17 Houston on the road Dec. 9, host Mary Hardin-Baylor at 2 p.m. on Dec. 12 and square off against No. 19 Texas on Dec. 16 in Austin.
In another story appearing in gobearkats.com, Sam Houston women’s basketball head coach Ravon Justice unveiled a revamped non-conference schedule for the 2020-21 season on Tuesday with six games on the slate leading into Southland Conference play.
The Kats’ game vs Midwestern State is the first of six non-conference games on the schedule, three of which will be on the road and three being played at the Coliseum. The Kats will also host Central Baptist on November 28 and UTSA on December 18, their final game before the Christmas break.
Sam Houston will also hit the road for games at Tulsa on December 2 and UTEP on December 5, in addition to a December 15 game at Texas A&M. It will be the first time the Kats and Aggies have met since the 2006-07 season.
