CLOCK RETURNED

Wednesday afternoon, that large clock that was stolen on June 15th in front of the University Avenue Roche Family Dentistry Building, was returned. Thanks to Huntsville Police, the clock was returned to William Roche II and Becky Roche. The clock will have to be repaired due to damage to it when it was stolen.
Among several residential burglaries, the police are also investigating a burglary which involved a sizable amount of items. The burglary, which occurred in the 2800 block of Angier Road, was estimtated in worth at over $3,400 dollars. Items taken include a Wurlitzer jukebox, several collectible sports items, and jewelry.
EMS AND NE FIRE STATION

Tuesday morning at the Courthouse, Judge Danny Pierce, County Commissioners, and Mayor J. Turner held a lengthy discussion over EMS issues such as building new EMS personnel facilities at the proposed Northeast Fire Station. Also discussed was the possible eventual closing and sale of the Avenue M fire station with its proceeds going to aid in paying for that addition to the new facility. No final decisions were made. We asked Precinct 4 Commissioner Tim Paulsel if the issue was at a standstill. He felt they were at a "starting point" He said, "Whether they move to a new fire station or we keep them where they are, we're going to need to see what kind of options are available."
We asked him if he foresaw any change in the design of the Northeast Fire Station . . .
The possible future renegotiation of the amount of the county's payment for fire services provided by the City was also discussed.

CITY BUDGET DRAFT

Interim City Manager Gene Pipes presented the first draft of the fiscal year 2008-09 Budget to the Huntsville City Council Tuesday night at City Hall . . . .
The general fund summary reports the total uses of resources at $16,328,948 --which includes operating and administrative reimbursement expenditures, operating transfers out and transfer to capital improvements. For September 30, 2009 the projected ending fund balance is $4,548,799 dollars, which is just under the the original beginining fund balance. There will be further discussion of the budget at the next budget work session next Tuesday night.

The Huntsville City Council will meet tonight in regular session at City Hall at six. Tonight's consent agenda includes the possible approval of several items. They include an annual maintenance agreement for $25,000 dollars for Bentley software licensing and support, a bid for concrete products through an annual contract with Service Ready Mix and Transit Mix Concrete, a bid for CRS2 product through an annual contract with Cleveland Asphalt for $1.95 a gallon, and a bid for flexible base products through an annual contract with Pavers Supply.
On the statutory agenda, there will be a presentation, discussion, and possible action on an ordinance to consider budget amendments to the 2007-08 budget.
During the Mayor-Councilmember-City Manager report, there will be discussion and possible appointment of members to City Council committees. Councilmembers will consider possible action on a letter of request from Joiner Partnership regarding architectural services for the Northeast Fire Station. There will be program updates on the septic tank waste pilot program, the Robinson Creek/Texas Commission on Environnmental Quality agreed order, and Ravenwood development. Discussion and possible action is scheduled regarding a letter of request from United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission by Youth for a waiver of certain permits. And, there will be a presentation of a draft for the fiscal year 2008-09 budget.
ACCIDENTS

A couple of accidents in Huntsville Monday.
At the intersection of State Highway 19 and the northbound Interstate 45 feeder Monday morning, an 18-wheeler overturned on its side. According to Huntsville Police Sergeant Ron Cleere, the driver said that faulty brakes prevented the safe execution of a turn. The truck's cargo, jugs of water, may have contributed to the accident. The driver was treated for minor injuries at Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
Also Monday, a Chevrolet Trailblazer pulling a trailer flipped on its side in the northbound lane near the #116 exit. The driver and her three children did not experience any injuries in the accident. Traffic in the northbound lane was tied up for about 30 minutes.
DROWNING

Sunday, a 17-year-old male who was rescued Friday from the Elkins Lake's Olympic Pool, died at Conroe Regional Medical Center.
Friday evening, Hayden O'Brien was airlifted in critical condition from a location six miles south of Huntsville. CPR was administered to O'Brien after he was pulled from the pool.
Advanced life support equipment was used by Huntsville-walker County EMS personnel to revive him after moving him into an ambulance. He was flown to Conroe and later moved to Conroe Regional Medical Center's Critical Care Unit. He died there sometime Sunday.
JUSTICE CENTER ROOF
July 01, 2008
Walker County Commissioners met in special session Monday morning. One of the items on the agenda included a roof leak issue at the Justice Center. Several attempts at repairs to the roof have been made, although none have been successful. Operations Bureau Captain Larry McDugle informed Commissioners about the problem . . . .
The rain is also reported to be leaking at times on communications equipment in the building. Commissioners Court assigned County Engineer Jerry Nemec to investigate the matter.

Walker County Commissioners Court will get together for a special session at 9 this morning at the Courthouse. Among several agenda items, Commissioners will consider approving purchasing Stryker power cots for EMS units from the general fund for EMS. They will discuss and look at approving an information technology depatmental report. Commissioners will consider rectifying problems with the roof at the Justice Center. They will discuss approval of a vendor for geotechnical engineer for the Hearts Museum. They will look at approving an award of request for a proposal for an independent telecommunications consultant. They will look at approving renewal of professional auditing services with Kenneth C. Davis for July, 2008 through June, 2009 for $20,000 dollars. Commissioners will consider approving a resolution authorizing submission of the 2009-10 Texas Community Development Program Application on behalf of the Walker County Special Utility Distict. They will look at approving a citizens complaint procedure for the Texas Community Development Program. And, they will also discuss approval of signage for County vehicles.
