HUNTSVILLE CITY COUNCIL HIRED LEGAL COUNSEL ADDRESSES PAVEMENT AND LEGAL ISSUES AT THE CITY’S TRANSFER STATION

At last night’s Huntsville City Council session, one of the important agenda items councilmembers focused on was to address pavement issues at Huntsville’s Transfer Station. Pavement there, following construction, was found to be cracking and crumbling.

Representing the City, Chapman Law Firm lawyer Jeffrey Chapman addressed the council. Chapman identified various companies involved with the issue . . . .

Mr. Chapman passed along the issues with the concrete at the Transfer Station . . . .

Mr. Chapman told councilmembers, “At this point in time, the City is involved in settlement discussions with Anchor Construction. Anchor has triggered their insurance carrier’s obligations to defend them.” He said, “That lawyer is directly involved with me in discussing a potential settlement.”

He also said, his firm and the City staff are working “to not let things lapse with respect to the facility even though we’re involved in settlement negotiations.  We are taking steps to design contract documents, so if we need to bid it out to have it redone by a different contractor, we can do that without losing too much time.”
